Valentine’s Day Craft for Kids

Remember how once upon a time we lived in a world with NO Pinterest? Seriously, what did we do to plan weddings, home decor, baby showers, recipes, fashion??? I’m sooo thankful Pinterest exists, so I don’t have to come up with my own ideas for anything {kidding, kidding, sort of}. A few weeks ago, I was searching for some Valentine’s Day arts and craft ideas, and found a picture with a finished craft, and decided that it was easy enough to recreate. We had all the supplies on hand, and the best part was that it involved finger painting, and my child is obsessed with paint! So I knew this would be a hit with Elle.

The supplies you’ll need are: paper {I used card stock}, variety of pink or red paint {we used this brand}, paint brushes, scissors, double tip glue pen, craft knife and ribbon.

Decide how many crafts you’ll want to do {i.e., how many people are you giving/sending these to} so that you know how many blush hand prints you’ll do, how many hot pink, and how many red. You will need three hand prints per “bouquet”. Also choose one color {i.e., red}  and use the opposite hand for that hand print. This way your bouquet has the thumb facing in two different directions.

Then, have fun! I let Elle have a ball with the paint, and even though I painted her palm most of the time, she decided that she was a big girl at one point, and proceeded to paint her own hands.

After you’re done, let the paint dry. Acrylic paint dries fairly fast which is a plus. At this time, you’ll want to paint the flower stem on new paper, so that it can all dry at the same time. If your kiddo is old enough {and you have enough patience} to use scissors, let them help you cut out the hand prints.

Once everything is dry, and all the hand prints have been cut out, grab your paper with the flower stem, and use the wide spread tip of the glue pen to glue the hand prints in a flower pattern. I liked alternating the colors between blush, red, and hot pink.

After you’ve done all that, cut two little slits with the craft knife along the flower stem, and use the dull side of the craft knife to pull the ribbon through. Finish it off by tying a little bow, and cutting off any extra ribbon on an angle

Finally I used a craft marker to write Happy Valentine’s Day 2019, and had Elle write her name under “Love” on the opposite side.

Happy crafting friends!
