A Summer Staycation at Ocean Edge Resort

Last week we were treated to a two night, three day stay at one of Cape Cod’s premier ocean front resorts. Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club is located in Brewster, Massachusetts, and this gorgeous property offers something for everyone. From accommodations at The Mansion or The Villages, a pristine golf course, access to a private beach, multiple pools, spa, on site restaurants, and an abundance of activities (e.g., bike trails, kayaks, tennis, oyster tours, and so much more), you will never have to leave the the resort.

We arrived on Thursday afternoon, and after checking in at the Mansion lobby, we made our way to the Britterige Villas. They just went through a 5.5 million dollar renovation, and our one bedroom villa was the perfect size, offering a small kitchenette (with a full sized fridge), a separate bedroom, full bathroom, pull out sofa, and a balcony overlooking Blueberry Pond.

After settling in, we decided to go explore the property. There are a ton of walking trails, all surrounded by blooming hydrangeas, overlooking the expansive golf course.

That evening, we made dinner reservations at the Ocean Terrace, located at the Mansion, and overlooking Cape Cod Bay.

The atmosphere and views were spectacular (tables were also spaced far apart and servers wore masks), the service was excellent, and our meal was one of my absolute favorites. From the crab cake and tuna tartar appetizers, to our entrees, and the cheesecake dessert, everything was superb. The wine list also had some nice options, and we got a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, followed by a bottle of Rose; after all, what is a meal without good wine?

One tip is to make your reservation so that you get to stay for the sunset, it was breathtaking.

Friday morning, we woke up to a cool morning and overcast skies. Since we had the kitchenette, we brought a few things to make breakfast, and my dad and I enjoyed coffee on the balcony.

After a little rain passed, and some r&r in the villa, we made our way to the Linx Tavern located at the Ocean Edge Villages golf course club house. It was quiet, and peaceful, and we grabbed a table outside overlooking the course. We felt really comfortable dining outside, as once again, other customers were seated far from us, and everyone had space to enjoy a meal while socially distancing. We ordered some chowder (perfect for the cooler day), and calamari to start. And for entrees, my dad and I opted for the lobster rolls with fries (which were delicious and huge), and my mom got the fish and chips. The food once again was excellent, our server was attentive, and even the manager stopped by to check in on us.

We walked around for a bit after lunch, once again admiring the beautiful landscape and abundance of flowers.

Then we made our way to the beach. We had an oyster tour scheduled at 3:30 p.m., but wanted to enjoy some time walking along the beach. The boardwalk leading up to the beach was a treat for Elle, and once out at the beach, we were mesmerized by how vast and spacious the beach was. Many Cape Cod beaches are quiet narrow, and the waves tend to be rough. This beach was the exception. It was calm, and open, and stretched far out into the distance. We watched seagulls catch some crabs, dipped our feet in the water, and had an impromptu little dance party.

We then met Steve our oyster tour guide. As a Cape Cod native, he was quiet knowledgeable about Cape Cod Bay dating back to pre-historic times. Even though it is called an “oyster tour“, Steve told us about the ecology of the beach and the many creature (big and small) that inhabit the waters, including of course the history of oysters. It was a treat to meet him, and to have this 1:1 experience.

On Saturday morning we woke up to a beautiful sunny day. We decided to have an early breakfast at Ocean Terrace, because like I mentioned before, you cannot beat the view there. The food and service were great once again, and Elle really loved her French Toast!

After breakfast, we packed up the car (checkout is at 11 a.m.), but were looking forward to the day ahead at the resort. We decided we would rent some bikes and ride those on the Cape Cod Rail Trail (26 miles of paved trail along some of the most beautiful spots on the Cape), and this trail is right along the Ocean Edge property. Unfortunately, Elle still needs a bike with training wheels, and none were available (although they did have children’s sized bikes without training wheels). So we will just have to come back when she can ride a big girl bike!

Even with this little glitch, we knew there was still plenty for us to do, so we opted to rent some kayaks (they have SUP’s as well) to take out on Blueberry Pond, which was actually right behind the Britterige Villas. It was Elle’s first time in the kayak, and she was in all her glory. The pond was so pretty and quiet, and we spent an hour kayaking, watching baby ducks, and finding water lilies.

After kayaking, we headed to the beach. It was a gorgeous day, so it was busy, but everyone was still keeping their distance, and we were lucky to get four beach chairs, right near the sea grass. Elle spent most of her time in the water and playing in the sand, only to take a break, when her lunch arrived from The Beach Bar. My mom and I had a few adult beverages as well, which did not disappoint (try the Coconut Frozen Mojito, you won’t regret it!)

I am so grateful for Ocean Edge Resort for not only hosting us, but also for giving us an opportunity to go on this family trip this summer. After months of quarantine, and being indoors, this was just what our family needed. The best part is that Ocean Edge offers so much for everyone, that you never have to leave the property. I also really appreciate their dedication to cleanliness, and well being of their guests and employees across the whole resort. It gave me great peace of mind knowing that there are many safety and health protocols in place.

We cannot wait to return to Ocean Edge in the future, and I hope all of you get a chance to experience a #SummerAtTheEdge as well!

Xx, Anastasia

    • Hi, yes we wore a mask anytime we were around other people. But the resort is so big that we were able to distance without problem.
