A few weeks ago, Elle and I decided to give a new sugar cookie recipe a try. It was freezing outside, so I figured it was the perfect day to try out this recipe, so that if we loved them, we could bake them again in time for Valentine’s Day. I’m planning on putting them in some cute cellophane bags, tying them up with a pink ribbon and attaching a little Valentine for Elle’s buddies at daycare.
I wanted to snap some pics of Elle and I baking together and as much as I prefer to be behind the camera, I don’t want Elle to look back at pictures and wonder where I was. So I set up a tripod, hooked up my camera, and got the remote. It took a little time to set it up, but it was worth it in the end, for some mama/daughter snaps.
We used this exact recipe, but got store bought frosting that Elle could squeeze out. I’ve made frosting in the past, and it never turns out how I like it, so I took the easy way out. The sprinkles (and the cookie/cake stand, the heart shaped marshmallows, and the heart napkins) we picked up at our local Home Goods. The cookie cutters I got at Target. I couldn’t find the exact ones I got, but here are some cute ones!
I honestly felt the urge to go OCD and do the cookies my way, but I let Elle have fun with them. There was sprinkled sugar on the floor for days.. maybe still there… but she had so much fun, so it was well worth it! And those little hands decorating melt my mama heart.
One small note. I did reduce the baking time on our second batch, and made them a little bit thicker, and these were much better and not dry or crumbly at all!
Happy baking!
